Where will we go?
Where Island Song Charters
sails always depends on the wind, weather, sea conditions, and time of
day. We also take our guests’ preferences into consideration, especially for private tours.
A typical tour includes cruising up the Intracoastal Waterway to the Little River Inlet to Bird Island and Waites Island and out to the Atlantic Ocean.
During the Intracoastal portion of the tour, you will enjoy beautiful scenery of
the natural marshes, barrier islands, and various wildlife. An
Intracoastal tour will take you past the historic Little River
Waterfront, the home of the famous Blue Crab Festival, the Calabash
fishing village, home of the world-wide famous Calabash seafood, and
even a Civil War fortifications site.
Should we bring food and drinks?
We provide refreshing non-alcoholic beverages, light snacks, and water on all tours. You are also welcome to bring your own cooler on any tour with your food and beverages. Your own beer, wine, or other choices are welcome aboard for legal age drinkers only.
What should we wear?
Soft-soled shoes
with non-marring soles are a must. Black-soled shoes are likely to
leave marks on the boat, so white-soled shoes are preferred. If you
plan to wear a hat, we recommend a hat with a tie or clip attached.
Wear whatever makes you comfortable. Light colored clothing, sun
glasses, towels, and sun protection are advised. Common sense clothing
to fit the weather is always right.
Please keep in mind, especially during cooler weather, that the ocean breeze can be a bit chilly when right on the water. Layers are recommended especially during the cooler months.
Will we see dolphins?
Bottlenose dolphins are frequently seen
around sunrise and sunset, in areas where there are small fish to eat.
Dolphins are attracted to the shrimp boats and the easy food they
provide, so we may sail near to catch a glimpse. In the spring and
fall, we occasionally see herds of dolphins migrating through our area.
They also approach sail boats due to the lack of engine noise and have
been known to ride the bow wake.
What about birds?
We
always see birds. The barrier islands in this area are a natural
habitat for many species of birds, including great white heron, ibis,
and many more. You will enjoy watching the antics of Brown Pelicans as
they dive for their prey.
Why only six persons on a tour?
Our boat and tours are designed around the concept that personal attention and personal service are what you, our valued guest, are always seeking.
Can we help sail the boat?
Extra
hands are always helpful while getting in and out of the boat slip, but
helping out is not required. If passengers want to steer or help trim
sails, we are glad to give them the opportunity when conditions are safe.
Can we play music?
We
have a CD player onboard with speakers in the cockpit and cabin. Feel
free to bring your favorite CDs. We have a variety of CDs onboard
including your favorite Jimmy Buffet music. We sometimes just listen to
the calls of the birds and the sound of waves lapping on the boat as
the blue ocean flows by.
Are Private Tours Available?
Yes! For an additional $35 we are glad to accommodate those who want the vessels operated by Island Song Charters all to themselves. For a very special addition to your vacation holiday come on the tour with a loved one or your family group up to six persons.
